Baselworld 2016 – An Overview
With Baselworld over for another year and of course, a number of new jewellery and timepiece products, new brands and exciting innovating. We aim not to give you an exhaustive, in depth account but leave you with a taste of what we admired from the show.
Pre-show, Sylvie Ritter who is the MD of Baselworld spoke to Luxury Society on what to expect from the fair and why is it so successful.
Firstly, Bloomberg Business lead the way with their top 5 coolest watches:
Bloomberg also followed this video, with Chris Rovzar’s six watches that surprised him at the fair. The Jacob & Co. Astronomia Sky is not only an exquisite timepiece, but a work of art. With a collectors size price to match. The same can be said about the Hublot MP-07, which is yet to be released.
Forbes picked out their favourite Chronograph watches. The Speake-Marin Spirit Seafire watch is one of our top picks, even if we haven’t heard of the brand before.
A Blog To Watch ‘s impressive live coverage was backed up with strong editorial content within their Baselworld section. It’s worth noting a few pieces from their coverage, firstly the Ressence Type 3N ‘Night Blue’ Watch is a digital watch which functions like a traditional chronograph watch complete with an analogue dials and is remarkable different from a lot of both digital and chronograph watches – it’s certainly a watch to own within a wider collection. At the other end of the spectrum, yet just as definitive is the Histoire De Tourbillon 7 Watch from Harry Winston, this timepiece blends modern styling with centuries old complications, and includes two tourbillons!
Hodinkee took an in depth look at a new timepiece from MB&F called HMX “Black Badger” and we agree with them, this watch is definitely fun and unique!
We hope that leaves you with a taste of Baselworld 2016 while providing you with more than enough reading to keep you busy over the next few weeks!
