Introducing Estados Luxury Leather Goods
Estados was founded by Anglo-South American brother and sister team Hugo Lesser and Marisa Orchard in 2010.
Hugo says – “We’ve been surrounded by beautiful Argentine leather goods all our lives. Our parents travelled to Argentina regularly for 30 years, inevitably returning laden with wallets, purses, handbags and belts. The quality of the leather, they used to say, surpassed anything available in Europe.”
“Our grandfather meanwhile was one of the thousands of British engineers, entrepreneurs and financiers that travelled to Argentina in the late 19th and early 20th centuries to establish infrastructure. He was a railway engineer, and he went to design a tunnel to connect Argentina and Chile across the Andes. His leather chaps, his riding boots, and the holster he later took with him to the front in the Great War, were so well made, of such wonderful leather, that they remain in excellent condition today, more than a century later.”
Estados’ is short for ‘Estados Animicos’, which means ‘states of mind’, ‘moods’ or ‘soul states’, in Spanish. This reflects the design ethos of using and combining different coloured leather.
Estados personally design all of their leather goods and oversee the manufacturing process, to ensure the uncompromising quality that is a hallmark of our brand.
Our leather is better.
Argentine leather is incredibly soft and supple because the unique climate and geography of the Pampas (the plains around Buenos Aires) combine to create a perfect environment for cattle. Abundant, lush pasture, plentiful water sources, and a year-round mild climate all contribute to the extraordinary health of the hides.
Hides in Argentina are graded on a scale of 1-3, depending on how soft or how blemished they are. Estados exclusively use Grade 1, full-grain calf hides.
Estados leather goods are manufactured by a fourth-generation leather craftsman in a small workshop in the foothills of the Andes in north-west Argentina. Originally from Buenos Aires, he established his own workshop in 2010 with the support of Fundacion Impulsar, the Argentine affiliate of the Prince’s Trust.
We oversee our manufacturing personally, so we are confident enough to offer a 10 year manufacturing guarantee with everything.
Estados’ original British designs stands out thanks to both innovative products and exclusive colour combinations often used.
“I am always in pursuit of a perfect wallet that looks sharp and also fits in your pocket. Estados ticks both of those boxes”. James Haskell [English Rugby Player]
“The great thing is that the brand have managed to remain true to their roots whilst also tapping into current trends. Like satchel bags, texture clash wallets, and bright pops of colour”. Olivia Cox [TV presenter]
